VENUE AND COURSE DETAILS
Venue
The Venue for Jan Etherington’s comedy course is the Riverside Arts Centre in the heart of the historic village of Sunbury on Thames. The Centre is renowned for its support of the arts, from drama to writing, painting to music, to the launch of Jan Etherington’s seminars on how to make your script the one every commissioning editor wants to find on their desk.
Comedy Course details
The weekend course begins at 9.30am with coffee on Saturday October 11th and at 10am on Sunday October 12th. Both days finish at 5 p.m.
These courses are open to everyone who loves comedy. They're for those who write professionally and want to extend their range, to those who simply have a love of comedy and want to learn more. It’s also for those looking for the way to make the break into full time writing or currently in a very different profession and simply testing the ground to see if comedy is for them.
On this course, while we will be covering the basic skills of comedy writing, we’ll highlight romantic comedy. And in case you think this is chick flick territory and only women write romantic comedy, then think again. Richard Curtis, (Four Weddings, Notting Hill,) Judd Apatow (Knocked Up,) Nick Hornby (About A Boy, High Fidelity) are just a few of the biggest names in rom com. And then there’s the great classics, The Philadelphia Story, Some Like It Hot, Barefoot in the Park, all written by men. Could you?
We keep our classes to a limited number in order to ensure that everyone who attends gets as much personal attention as possible. All we ask you to bring is a notebook and before the course begins - but only if you feel like it - to submit anything you’ve written so that we have an idea of what you do.
Fee
The fee for our weekend long course on October 11th/12th is £160.00 which includes lunch, morning coffee and afternoon tea on both days. Details of how to make payments will be found on the application page
